What I read and what I like and dislike of it...

For the last two weeks (yes TWO weeks!!!) I have read two books...

First... Mao's Last Dancer... A true story of a boy living a struggling life and as faith would have it his teacher taps one of the soldier as they lead two of his classmates out of the classroom on the back and points to him "how about that one?" as hard work and dedication consume his life he began his career into western ballet stardom... This is among those books like 'Chinese Cinderella' very heart wrenching... what I don't particularly like about this book is that it is too debonair... It tells about the upper class society a bit too easily... I just think that maybe because I have been influenced by the idea that sometimes luck doesn't come too easily for some people and they have to work hard for it but in this novel everything seems to be resolved so beautifully for him... although there were some struggle it is just seem too easy... But overall I enjoy the other perspective of being in a very early outer province of China even though poverty dominates the outskirt of large cities of China there are light-hearted events portrayed here... Nonetheless it is beautiful if you are into a Cinderella type of ending...

Second... The Sinner by Tess Gerritsen... A chilling murder mystery as Dr Maura Isles try to solve the murder of two nuns in a locked convent. A convent where outsiders are forbidden and no one is to leave the place... Overall... I think that the plot's a bit shaky on the crime side but nonetheless if you want light crime entertainment it is rather good but what you want to read in this novel is just the drama behind the two leading ladies.... Maura Isles and Jane Rizzoli have a drama of their own... unwanted pregnancies, ex-husband, and an unknown relationship with an FBI... It is really good on the drama side... the relationships are the thing that I want to continue to read another installment of the series... I think the next one after the sinner is 'Body Double' which from what I have read a preview of is kind of interesting... so... see my next review on Tess Gerritsen's novel. (after I buy the novel :P) The cover is actually not the cover that I particularly liked. The cover of the novel that I purchased is much better than this but I cannot find the image...
